Remembering Jennie Morehouse-January 2022
CBAA Member, Jennie Morehouse, passed away in January 2022. We would like to send our condolences to her family and sorrow with them in her loss. Jennie served the Gallery in many ways over her near 30 years of being a member. She served as president, treasurer and organized the booth members. She enjoyed producing many types of art-work including painting wildlife that appeared out her home window, designing jewelry and loved sharing a good visit! Her warm smile will be sadly missed and her spot at our Gallery 'table' will not be quickly filled. Thank you, Jennie, for filling our days at the Gallery with your presence, art, and warmth!
May God Bless!

LIFE BACK ON HOLD!
2020 CANCELLATION OF
COVERED BRIDGE FESTIVAL
Parke County Commissioners' monthly meeting was held Monday, August 17, 2020. Almost an hour of discussion centered around this year's Covered Bridge Festival and ended with a vote to cancel this year's festival due to potential health threats with Covid-19. It is with heavy hearts that The Gallery will miss the excitement and swell of visitors for our 10 day festival!
Visitors to Parke County during the festival are the life blood to many non-for-profit organizations who support its residents with student scholarships, project grants, sports equipment and funding, church programs, and so much more throughout the year. It is unknown how the festival cancellation will impact all of these programs that depend on festival money. The Gallery is blessed indeed to have secure bank accounts that should carry us through the uncertainty of the next 12 months. CBAA still encourages our annual CBF tourists to come to Parke County and wander our country roads, see our bridges and visit our Gallery! We will be loaded with new art ready for your Christmas gift giving so, stop in to see Pottery, Jewelry, Paintings of every style, subject and size, artisan crafts and more!
Remember Parke County is More than just the CBFestival! We are here all year! So, plan your get away to Parke County and enjoy our attractions and shopping year round!
We still observe masking requirements and promote distancing and hand sanitizer but we are Certainly Open for Business! Hope to see you this fall!
Stay safe! Stay Healthy! And Mask UP!

Receives 'Round Up Grant'
from REMC!
The Covered Bridge Art Association would like to thank REMC and its Multi-County Community Trust Round Up Board for awarding the Art Association a grant in June, 2016! This grant will allow The Covered Bridge Art Association to replace the 30 year old lighting system in the front gallery from aging florescent tubes to a new LED system. This will help reduce utility expenses for the Gallery for many years to come! We are excited to be able to move forward with this project and reduce our ongoing expenses of operation so we will remain a vital part of the downtown Rockville merchant community!
Many Thanks to the REMC customers who participate in the 'Round Up' project and who have donated to our project! and our thanks to the REMC Community Trust Board who determined that our project was worthwhile!

View her photography that will cheer and mystify your creative mind!
Stop in at the Gallery to see her work through the month of August.
Photographic works by Sheila Ter Meer of Clay County will be featured in a solo exhibit throughout August in Covered Bridge Art Association's Gallery at Rockville.
The Brazil native is a member of River City Art Association and Arts Illiana in Terre Haute, and an associate member of Covered Bridge Art Association. She was awarded the opportunity to showcase her photography in the Gallery as Best of Show winner in the July 2014 CBAA Associate Members Show.
Ter Meer is a self-taught photographer; some of her news and feature photos have been published in the Terre Haute Tribune-Star where she has worked in the features/community news department since 1981. Until January 2013, photography was just a hobby she shared only with family and friends and in Open Class competitions at the Clay County 4-H Fair.
She joined River City and literally got her feet wet photographing the Wabash River at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute and its tributary Big Raccoon Creek at Bridgeton and Mansfield for entries in RCAA's 2013 Year of the River art show and the TREES Inc. 2013 Year of the River Photography Competition.
In addition to riverscapes, Ter Meer's favorite subjects run the gamut: family and pets, old barns and pastoral scenes, wildlife, plant life, sunrises and sunsets, cityscapes, seascapes, statues, landmarks, tourist attractions, and anything that satisfies her penchant for whimsies - anything playful or fanciful, as an artistic creation.
"My primary focus is nature and life experiences; I approach all aspects of our daily existence - natural and manmade - with curiosity, excitement and amazement as that of a wide-eyed child experiencing the world around them for the very first time,” she said.
Ter Meer likes to “think outside the frame.” In addition to traditional lustre and glossy photo paper, she presents more contemporary images on metallic and watercolor giclee paper, canvas, wood, aluminum and acrylic. Her first three-dimensional piece was juried into an exhibition in Halcyon Contemporary Art Gallery in Terre Haute before winning Best of Show at the 2014 CBAA Associate Members Show.
Ter Meer also loves to “break all the rules” and create abstract art from traditional images. In May of this year, her photo art on aluminum won the inaugural Roger King Memorial Award and a second place at the Wabash Valley Art Guild Spring Juried Exhibition.
Ter Meer's August exhibit in the Covered Bridge Art Gallery will include her Blue Ribbon entry in this year's Associate Members Show, her Third Place photo in last year's show, and a collection recently featured in the Arts Illiana Outreach Gallery in Terre Haute Savings Bank.
Her 3D Best of Show entry is not part of the exhibit; she has entered it in the Seventh Annual River City Art Association Juried Exhibition scheduled Aug. 7-19 in First Financial Bank in downtown Terre Haute. She will have other examples of pareidolia, the psychological phenomenon of seeing faces, figures, or animals in clouds, tree bark, wood grain, rock, marble, sand, smoke, shadows, water or any non-homogeneous area where they do not actually exist.
Most of Ter Meer's photos and abstract creations are featured on her blog, Sheila T Illustrated, atsheilatphotography.wordpress.com.

CBAA Celebrating 50 Year
Anniversary!
Many Heartfelt Thanks to Louise Michael for her inspiration in founding the Covered Bridge Art Association!
It was through her vision 50 years ago that she and many others joined together their efforts to form a group of women interested in the Arts and Art Education in Parke County. She and other Parke County women Lois Sciotto, Delores Collings, Barbara Flock, and others came together to further their art talents and education interests to form what has become the Covered Bridge Art Association of today.
In June we celebrated our 50th Anniversary of the Association and 30th Anniversary in our Historic Downtown Building where today men and women share their diverse art talents and interest with west central Indiana. A Special Thank You To Sheila Ter Meer Best of Show Winner
of our July 2014 Associate's Show!
Sheila Ter Meer is a Wabash Valley Artist, specializing in Photography.
Her Best of Show photograph was printed on a metal plate and fastened to a textured glass sheet and supported by a sandstone block. See more of her work featured in a One-Artist Show in August 2015 at the Covered Bridge Art Gallery!
As an associate member of the Covered Bridge Art Assoc., Sheila Ter Meer is a greater Wabash Valley award winner. She has displayed art in exhibits from Paris, Illinois, the Swope Museum in Terre Haute, Indiana State Univ., Indianapolis International Airport, and Vigo County Library.
During the July 2014 Covered Bridge Art Association Associates’ Show, she won a blue ribbon and Best of Show with “Pareidolia: Breaking the Surface,” Dog Paddling Past Mansfield. This 3D artwork is compiled from a photo on an aluminum plate, mounted on tempered glass, and displayed mounted on a sandstone base. A pareidolia is the vague and imagined perception of a random image in a location where it does not actually exist. Examples are faces or animals in clouds or tree foliage. Look closely! See if you can find the dog in the water formation.
